Mizzou is better than KU(Sports, Opinion)
For as long as I can remember Kansas fans have continually roasted me for being a Mizzou fan. Yes, even you Schwartz have poked fun at my Tigers and I will stand for it no longer! Every KU fans argument is that they are better at basketball but this year that is not the case. As of January 28th, 2021 Mizzou is ranked №12 in the nation while KU is №15. I believe this will be a major turning point between these two schools because one is on the rise and the other is declining. Before I make my point I would like to take a trip back into what the Border War used to be like and why we no longer have it.
Back in the 1920’s Mizzou played KU in basketball for the first time and ever since then it has been one of the most interesting rivalries of all time. Dating back to the Civil War the rivalry went on all the way up through the early 2000’s until Mizzou decided to leave the Big 12 conference. During this time Kansas won 172 games while Missouri has won only 96. I know all you KU fans may be thinking to yourselves that this makes you better and I will give it to you on this one. Normally this argument can be compared by Kansas fans to their present day team but much to their dismay, Mizzou is better in the present. Kansas is slowly falling apart while Mizzou is on the rise and truly I don’t think it will stop here. They will meet next year at Allen Fieldhouse for the first time in eight years and I can’t wait for Mizzou to win.
Football is even worse for the Jayhawks. The Jayhawks haven’t had a winning season in 12 years now and their program is one of the worst in the nation. From a loss to a division 2 team(Coastal Carolina) and blowouts to Big 12 opponents, fans decide to focus on strictly basketball. Mizzou on the other hand has had only one losing season in the last 15 years, and has been a consistent NFL prospect machine with players like Drew Lock and Mitch Morse starting on NFL teams. Mizzou leads the Border War against KU with a record 57–50 and a better football team in the present, giving Mizzou the win on the football side of things.
When looking at all the information about this rivalry the statistics lead up to a tie between the schools. Both are respectively better at different sports and each side will say that their team is better. With me being a biased Mizzou fan I can’t help but see that Mizzou’s future is looking far brighter than KU’s. This is why Mizzou is way better. Mizzou is better at both sports now and I honestly feel bad for Kansas fans. So I’m really sorry to every KU fan out there. The future you never believed could come true, is unfolding right in front of your eyes. Mizzou is better and there’s no competition.
